Ashlands Vets


Anne MacGregor BVSc MRCVS and Andy MacGregor BVSc MRCVS

Andy qualified from Liverpool University in 1991 and took up a position in a mixed practice. He has also spent 6 months working for a specialised farm animal practice in Cheshire and further time in an exotics practice in Liverpool. Anne qualified from Liverpool in 1993 and has worked in mixed practice and at an equine hospital. Anne and Andy took on Ashlands Veterinary Centre in 2000.

Andy has developed an particular interest in orthopaedics and Anne’s interests lie in ultrasonography and cardiology, she also performs acupuncture. Anne has now taken on the role of Practice Manager. They have three children, who keep them occupied outside work, however, Andy does find time to coach the juniors at Ilkley Rugby Club and play the saxophone alongside Anne, who plays the trumpet, for the Two Rivers Swing Band.

Steve Kirby

Steve Kirby BVetMed CertSAS MRCVS

Steve qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in July 2003. Following graduation he attained a position working for the Greater Manchester RSPCA Animal Hospital. Here Steve developed a keen interest in small animal surgery and emergancy medicine. After taking a year to travel the world and work in Australia, he returned to take up a position at Ashlands Veterinary Centre. He is mainly based at our Glusburn branch. Steve gained his Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in September 2012. In 2015 he was voted Petplan Vet of the Year!

Arron Longman

Arron Longman BVMS MRCVS

Arron has worked at Ashlands since 2006. He qualified from Glasgow University in 1994 and worked in a veterinary hospital in London where he discovered an interest in veterinary dermatology. He has attended the World Veterinary Dermatology Conference in Vienna and is a member of the British Veterinary Dermatology study group. He also has developed an interest in smaller pet animals and has been a member of the British Rabbit Council. Outside work Arron enjoys running and has participated in The London Marathon and The Great North Run. He also enjoys languages, gym training, cooking and attempting to grow odd shaped and usually quite small vegetables!

Sally Stockton

Sally Stockton BVSc GPCert(FelP) MRCVS

Sally qualified from Liverpool in 1985. She gained a GP certificate in feline practice in 2009 and is pictured here with one of her own cats called Stig who she rescued whilst working for the RSPCA. Sally runs Ashland’s feline friendly home visiting service known as ‘Cats Only’. This aims to minimise stress to cats in our care who especially don’t like travelling to the vets. Outside of work she tries to keep fit. She is married to a farm vet and they have 5 sons, 4 cats and 3 dogs plus some sheep and hens who keep them fairly well occupied.

Sam Burnell

Sam Burnell BVSc MRCVS

Sam qualified from Liverpool 2004, originally from Burley-in-Wharfedale, she moved to East Yorkshire to work in a small animal and equine practice for 3 years before returning to West Yorkshire to work in a small animal only practice. She joined Ashlands to take on the Skipton branch in September 2014.

Her particular interests lie in medicine and small furries. She enrolled on the Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2017 and hopes to complete it in 2020.

She has 2 cats, 2 rabbits, a Cocker Spaniel and a horse, and enjoys flyball with Poppy, her sister's cocker spaniel.

Ruth Auchterlounie

Ruth Auchterlounie MA VetMB MRCVS

Ruth came to Ashlands after a career break to bring up her family. She now helps Sam to run the Skipton surgery, and she runs a surgery at Church House, Grassington on a Tuesday morning, which is very popular. She has 3 sons, who keep her busy when she's not working!

Nikki Holt

Nikki Holt BVetMed MRCVS

Nikki joined us in September 2016. Her interest lies in surgery and she is studying for the Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. As well as studying for this, she and her partner are in the process of renovating a farm house.


Lydia Roberts BVM&S MRCVS

Lydia started at Ashlands in August 2016 after spending a period of time as a locum veterinary surgeon. She is also interested in the surgical side and is studying for the Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. She has a Welsh Springer Spaniel called Rufus who keeps an eye on her while she's at work.


Marcin Zakrzewski MRCVS

Marcin joined Ashlands in February 2016 initially as maternity cover, however, he has now become a permanent member of the vet team.

Miles Chater

Miles Chater BVSc MRCVS

Miles started at Ashlands in February 2017 to support Steve and Nikki at the Glusburn sugery. His main interests lie in the medical side.
